Mohsen Kamel

NW 904 N / 4994 E
NE 904 N / 5000 E
SE 898 N / 5000 E
SW 898 N / 4994 E
This is a 6 x 6 m trench south of the center of the site, in an area which is characterized by several large limestone grinding stones. At the surface is also visible a fired brick basin, coated on the inside with a thick layer of plaster, adjacent to a mud brick wall. Grinding stones and plastered basin suggest relation of building with grain processing.

Lauren Bruning

NW 957 N / 4950 E
NE 957 N / 4958 E
SE 953 N / 4958 E
SW 953 N / 4950 E
This is a 8 x 4 m trench in the center of the site in one of three high-standing buildings that combine mudbrick and limestone architecture. This is a well-preserved, well-constructed building, possibly with a public function.
03

Fathi Abu Zeid and John Lynch

NW 861 N / 5136 E
NE 861 N / 5142 E
SE 855 N / 5142 E
SW 855 N / 5136 E
This is a 6 x 6 m trench at the south eastern edge of town, near the garbage dumps. The surface remains show a courtyard linked to a mud brick building. The trench covers part of the courtyard and part of the building. The combination of a court yard area and house interior is of interest, as it may show a division between inside / outside activities in a periphrial area of the site.

Abd el Hakim Karrar and Louise Hitchcock

NW 939 N / 4812 E
NE 939 N / 4821 E
SE 934 N / 4821 E
SW 934 N / 4812 E
This is a 9 x 5 m trench in the south western part of the site, in a very large building made of black silty and yellow marl unfired brick. Its position in the village as well as its lay-out, which is perhaps indicative for a storage building, makes this a potentially interesting area.
05

Louise Hitchcock

NW 751 N / 4948 E
NE 751 N / 4949 E
SE 750 N / 4949 E
SW 750 N / 4948 E
This is a 1 x 1 m trench in an area at the south edge of the site covered by a dense pottery scatter. Test trench to clarify whether this area is the ancient trash dump, and if so, determine its quality (i.e., preservation, level of contamination of the upper layers, stratification depth, and date).
