Seshat

Seshat is the support group for UCLA’s archaeological work in Egypt and of the Egyptian Laboratory at the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology.

Seshat is the goddess of writing, inventor of hieroglyphs, composer of reports and one of her main tasks is surveying.

UCLA is actively involved in archaeological field work in Egypt. In Fall 2005 and excellent international team of 35 archaeologists is standing by to travel to Egypt to work in the Fayum on an exciting survey and excavation project.
Some of last year’s results: we discovered a Greco-Roman town and we saved the famous Neolithic Upper K Granaries (discovered in 1926, almost destroyed, but re-discovered and safeguarded just in time in 2004).
Every year, fresh out of the field, the team will organize a lecture on the recent results and publish an attractive overview of the work which will give you insight in the findings and day to day life of our team. If you visit Egypt while the team is at work, you are eligible for a special tour of the excavations and, depending on the level of your contribution, other sites in Egypt.
Your donation, which is tax deductible, is much needed in a time when funding from foundations and government grants is drying up fast. You will be directly involved in the exciting discoveries of the UCLA team. $ 25    per year: member free lecture and report
$ 100    per year: supporter free lecture, report and site tour
$ 500     per year: sustaining free lecture, report, site tour and publication
$ 1000    per year: life force free lecture, report, site tour and extra guided excursion
$ 5000 per year: inner circle
special arrangement with the director of excavations
